This is from a photographic print whose 'negative' I made (some time ago) with inks on an transparent acetate sheet. After scanning the print recently I also altered it slightly with a computer graphics program. This little piece reminds me of mitochondria, the tiny compartments in each of our cells that provide the cell's energy and are now believed originally to have been separate little proto-bacteria (each with its own DNA) that invaded or were ingested by the cell and decided to stay.
