Here’s a logo I designed for my son Andrew’s 3D company just before he reincorporated the company as Volugraphics, Inc., in July 2004. Cybergrams, 3D images printed photographically on a special micro-lenticular material, became Volugrams.
A brief profile of Andrew from the 2004 Volugraphics, Inc., business plan:
“Mr. Joel has more than 25 years of entrepreneurial experience directing profitable emerging technology start-up ventures, including 13 years of experience developing autostereoscopic (3D) lenticular printing technologies, specializing in visualization of 3D medical and scientific data. Mr. Joel’s initial background in industrial 2D and 3D photography, film and video production and post-production, and professional color and black & white photographic printing has provided a strong foundation on which he has built his expertise in various aspects of 3D digital imaging, including stereoscopic projection and display technologies, 3D software development, and photo-optical lenticular printing. Mr. Joel has also won several awards for his pioneering work related to the production of autostereoscopic hardcopies from 3D medical data, including: a Special Mention in Paris in 1992 from the prestigious “Prix Marie Curie de L’Imagerie Medicale” award (Marie Curie Award for Medical Imaging); a Certificate of Appreciation award in 1993 in Vienna from the European Congress of Radiology (ECR); and a Publication award in 1995 from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), with subsequent publication in 1996 in the RSNA’s influential publication, Radiographics.”
In 2004 Andrew applied for patents on his newly designed 3D digital camera and 3D automated digital printer. Also in the works, and near completion, was a system for 3D ultrasound, which would allow pregnant women to view their fetuses stereoscopically in real time and print within minutes desired still images as 3D Volugrams.
Andrew died suddenly on this date in 2005, and Volugraphics, Inc., died with him.
As the Yiddish proverb says, if you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans.
