Wrong Way Blago

Laurie Apple

On July 17, 1938, Douglas “Wrong Way” Corrigan took off from New York heading (supposedly) for Long Beach, California, in “his nine-year-old second-hand Curtis Robin monoplane, for which he paid $325...” Because of the heavy fog, “...he was told by airport authorities to take off toward the east and turn above the Atlantic, heading west. His 27-foot plane, which weighed 3,800 pounds, had fuel tanks mounted on the front, allowing him to see only out of the sides of the plane. He had no radio and his compass was made during World War I.....Twenty-eight hours and 13 minutes later he landed in Dublin, Ireland. After being asked for an explanation, he stated that he flew the wrong way because his compass stuck.”

Our second-favorite governor (after you know who) seems to be in the midst of a similar mishap. Distracted by dreams of glory and profit, and thinking he might occupy the Capitol Building himself if all else fails, this charming articulate alpha male must not have noticed the razor wire and guard tower at the top of what most certainly will be his new home. Evidently there’s already a sort of pay-to-play going on in there, so there’s reason to believe he’ll be able to settle in quite snug and comfy, free at last of all the burdens of being the leader of a great state.
